Our team at Xigera forms an integral part of our safari experience, with 105 exceptional staff looking after our guests.
We are so proud to have received more than 4,000 applications to join our team, and now have a compliment of around 28 people, which will steadily grow as we near our opening date in June, 2020. Led by Mike and Marian Myers who have over 30 years' experience in the bush, Quest Maundo (Lodge Manager), Nicole Siya (Guest Liason Manager) and Dikeledi Kakambi (People and Culture Manager) have made an outstanding start to their time with The Red Carnation Collection and Xigera. Genius and Lesh, two of our lead safari guides, are both locals and have been guiding at Xigera for a number of years.
Each and every member of our team will continue to learn from our colleagues in our Red Carnation sister hotels in South Africa, including The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa, Bushmans Kloof and The Oyster Box. This transfer of knowledge also continues on site, where Cape Town-based sculptor and arborist Adam Birch is generously dedicating his time to teach some of our team members how to work with the wood. Alongside Tirafalo our carpenter, we are so proud that two of our polers, Oscar and Brandon, have been given the opportunity to learn these new skills from Adam.
We have a primary health care provider who provides both physical and mental health support to our staff. Within the staff village, we will create various recreational initiatives such as a book club, a chess club, and a football and volleyball club.
Construction of the team village is well underway, centred around individual staff bedrooms, each with an en-suite. A well-appointed canteen will serve nutritious meals, with a tuck shop for treats and toiletries, and two lounges. Our photo journal below shows the start of this journey...
