CLIMATE

Botswana has a semi-arid climate, and Xigera sees all its extremes as well as its long, settled spells. The summer season begins in November and ends in March, and it can be very hot with midday temperatures over 35°C, although there are often short, intense rainstorms to cool down and nourish the abundant wildlife. Summer mornings are the most humid.

The winter season begins in May and ends in August, during which time it’s dry with almost no rainfall. In winter, the days are usually warm and sunny, and humidity levels drop considerably, but it can get very cold after dark and in the early morning. Each 4x4 vehicle is equipped with fleece-lined ponchos and hot water bottles for the colder weather. In between these times – during the transitional April-early May and September-October periods – it’s dry, with cooler days than in summer and warmer nights than in winter.

The natural pleasures of Xigera are open all year round but local animal wildlife is at its most active and visible from May to October.

One of Africa's last truly wild places

Xigera lies on the aptly named Paradise Island, surrounded by deep channels and lush vegetation within a remote area of the productive Moremi Game Reserve.
